The app will work on Android and iOS devices. Just point the smartphone at any painting in the Getty and you will get information about the picture as well as an audio description of the artwork from the curator. This will be part of the Google Goggles platform.

The Getty will be the 1st museum to work with Google to make its collection available to Google Goggles app. The encouraging people to use the app at the museum as long a they turn off the flash – how annoying. And they must remember to look at the artwork – instead of through the lens of their smartphones.

This effort is part of the Google Art Project that offers users a virtual tour of 17 museums throughout the world. Although that is virtual – this at least requires the viewer to be in the museum. LA Times
